Please tell me I didn’t just read this:
What, so if somebody complains about your use of profanity, you risk deletion? Fuck that.
The correct response to any such complaints would be ‘kids under 13 aren’t supposed to be here anyway, because it’s illegal for us to hold data on them without parental permission’. Except of course that abiding by US law is far less lucrative than allowing the place to be overrun by children whose mummies and daddies are happy to buy them domain names and custom CSS for as many usernames as their sweet little hearts desire.
Or ‘tough, we don’t censor content unless it’s actually illegal ‘. That would work too.
I just get the feeling that people over 12 don’t really belong on this host anymore. I wonder what long-term effect this will have on the brand? And it surely brings forward the day of reckoning with the authorities.

Um, wank. What are you doing surfing the club penguin blogs?

There’s nothing to stop me
As I’ve said before, Automattic are extremely lucky that I am neither a journalist or a paedophile.
These parents are paying Club Penguin for a safe environment for their kids. Then said kids end up blogging at a site with no safeguards whatsoever. They refuse to delete their data. They won’t flag kids who they know are under 18 and prevent them accessing mature content. They can’t even guarantee a porn-free dashboard.
The only way Automattic can make this place suitable for children is to kick the rest of us out. I just don’t know if that strategy’s going to fly with the investors.

Yes I posted that. A little credit would be nice.

Going by all the complaints you have, don’t you think it’s wiser to move away from WordPress.com hosting in any case?
Or is this a subtle marketing strategy for WordPress?
I’m sure it’s not, but I’m amazed that your blog which is a serious dissenting voice against wordpress.com continues to be hosted on wp.com.

These days, people have as many blogs as they have things to talk about.
Oh, and a porn-free dashboard! You mean that chocolate star that was up for half a week a couple of months ago in the “test my avatar” sticky thread? Ewww…..

I don’t have a problem with dissenters using the platform. If TGA’s blog moved to another platform the complaint would be that they have nothing to complain about because they aren’t involved.

Since we know you’re watching, hari, care to confirm that someone was threatened with deletion for a few swears? It’s a pretty serious charge; one I’d think a Happiness Engineer would be anxious to quash.
To say nothing of the giving-blogs-to-kids-without-parental-consent thing.
Mark said
“Well today my blog got almost supspened”
No it did not.
“care to confirm that someone was threatened with deletion for a few swears”
No they were not.
You have a fraction of what actually happened. What actually happened is of no concern here – I do not share that information anywhere.

Thanks for the clarification.

perhaps the title of this blog should be changed to wordpress.com wank? I miss the days of actual dish.

Now I’m curious as to what occurred. Almost as curious as to why they’re not suspending blogs that clearly violate the ToS and state so publicly. (Although it appears that the blogger is clueless as to why wp.com doesn’t allow folks to sell stuff off of their blog.)
So, wank. What’s your CP name? (I’m going to bug you about this until i find out.)
Kissing Bandit said
Well, drmike, if they started suspending all those blogs which violate their ToS, then they wouldn’t be able to rightfully boast about their extraordinary growth. Better to keep the undercover sploggers on the servers and revoke their networking privileges than to remove them completely and let the numbers dwindle.

That’s what they used to do before they put in that “We have a problem with your content.” notice a few months back. The problem though is that the blogs in question have zero original content and are nothing but adverts. If the poster removed the “problem” posts, the blogs would be empty.
Well that and I noticed a number of blogs recently that I reported as spam still in existence.
drmike said
Like this one: http://salilrane.wordpress.com/
The poster even asks about it in their forums: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic.php?id=24610

Note to self. Next time I notice a blog not get marked as a spammer, comment about it on wank’s blog.

I have reported many blogs to staff, including the audio and video download ones referred to and the rapid shares one. IMO the staff do a good job of checking out the reports that are submitted and either suspending or deleting these blogs.

OK, scattershot since I just got back online (I don’t announce my absences, not after what happened at New Year):
@antsrule02: you got a link, get over yourself. Mentioning your name in a post that uses a Bad Word would only get us both into trouble.
@adam: if I had been here, I assure you I would have covered the phantom theme viewer redesign
@hari: I hate to disillusion you, but you are not the first person to say ‘if you hate it so much here why don’t you just leave?’ Pretty much for the same reason everyone who’s ever disagreed with Matt on wp-hackers doesn’t just fork. If all the malcontents clear out, who’s going to ask the questions? Who’s going to attempt to call the powers-that-be to account? Maybe the penguins, but I wouldn’t put money on it.
@mark: OK, so penguins lie. I hope you had a word with this one to stop it spreading disinformation. I would ideally have liked some reassurance that this wasn’t policy, would never be policy, and that non-penguins were still welcome around here; but as a livejournaller I know the future is always uncertain, and appreciate your reluctance to make promises you may be unable to keep.
@drmike: consider my comments the alternative spam-report form

@antsrule02 – Actually wank did give you credit. You may have noticed that wank linked to you. (Wank, did you pull that one out of Akismet? I don’t remember seeing it before.)
@timethief – I point you up above to my previous comment that starts with “Now I’m curious…” to an example of blogs that aren’t getting deleted.
As per Mark’s comment, this isn’t the first time that they haven’t shared information. I wonder though if this isn’t yet another example of where they haven’t even shared the information with the folks involved. They have a history of doing that and refusing to even discuss issues. Or answering questions posed to them. Or even answering emails.
Mark said
The whole point of the ‘Report as Spam’, ‘Report as Mature’ or ‘Report as anything else that you are concerned about’ is that information is not shared anywhere public. We will not say who complained to the blogger, we will certainly not discuss the issue outside some possible brief feedback to the person complaining. And there is no way that any information would be ’shared’.
@timethief – thanks
@wank – lie? I think it was more a case of having to make it look much worse than it was. And policy? You mean about swearing? Done that in the forums.
drmike said
Never said that you should. May want to read the rest of my comment. I think you missed it.
I do have to agree with Mark though. I think this was just a case of the blogger posting an excuse to cover their ass. Considering the history of the CP bloggers around here and how often they whine in the forums, my money was on it being a copyright issue. That is a guess though.
drmike said
I point you again to the ones I linked to up above and you yourself stated are against the ToS. Even Rain asked you in the forums why they’re still online currently.
Mark said
The other blogs are now suspended. I was ill for most of last week and they slipped through as I caught up with other issues. Thanks for the reminders

Yeah, the penguin had been languishing in moderation, since I had it set not to publish anything from a first-time commenter. Don’t ask me why. I have no recollection of doing this, or even any particular conviction that it was me who did it.

And I see Mark missed my point yet again.
Here’s another one that is still up 23 hours after reporting: http://pvegetah.wordpress.com/

- Affiliate links? Check
- Adverts? Check
- Paid postings? There’s no way those posts and links can’t be paid for.
- Content stealing? Check.
- Download links? Check.

You’re probably spamblocked
I don’t report blogs anymore (too much like volunteering) but I’m sure someone else will pick it up.
