dog’s breakfast

Quick question; if global tags are such a great thing, why do Automattic use internal tagegories on their own wordpress.com blogs? I know internal tagegories make a lot more sense, but if you’re inflicting the Way Of Stupid SEO Gaming upon everyone else you really ought to eat your own dogfood.

apparently, they just forgot to “fix” P2 theme. but that’s not for long I guess.

ooh, shall I switch to p2 and see how long it takes them then?

        let’s see. *smile*

the only thing is that it doesn’t display category links in the post meta section at all. only (some) tags are displayed there.

the theme is pretty decent, imo, I only wish it had not so bright-white background and bigger type-height for the main font.

Go away for a day and Wank goes all wankie….

By the way, I don’t see any tags on this P2.

I could have sworn that we were telling folks that if they marked their blog as not indexed by the search engines, the tags and categories would remain local to the blog. It’s been so long since I reworked the category system on our wpmu installs, I can’t remember their broken system.

P2 shows tags, because tags are like, so web 2.0, but not categories. And I only use categories.

Don’t know whether you noticed that the newly introduced iNove site offers as theme options the ability to turn off tag and category links. Can’t help wondering if that’s partly in answer to your persistent criticizing of global “tagegories” — if so, I’m in your debt. Moving the main site I still have at wordpress.com to a modified version of the theme next week.

It seems to me more likely that the number of links to common categories was growing at such a rate that even Google could no longer pretend it wasn’t happening, and that this is an attempt to slow things down a bit. Thanks for the heads-up, though, I may give iNove a spin now.
